    Ready Mix Concrete

Challenge

Ameron Hawaii's Maui operation needed to temporarily convert their existing Lahaina Transit Mix Plant to a Central Mix Plant for a two-year project.  The project mix design included a proprietary use of foam into structural concrete.  Unfortunately, the annual volume of concrete produced in the local market could not justify a long term, central mix commitment.

    The Criteria

    • The addition of a CON-E-CO Model 12 Tilt Mixer (capacity 12 cubic yards)
could not have a long-term impact on the original Transit Mix plant
    • The temporary additon would have to involve minimal site
upgrades in order to reduce plant down-time
    • Existing permits needed to remain applicable
      during and after the project
    • Upon conclusion of project, the tilt mixer would need to
be relocated to Ameron Maui’s primary operation for a
      long-term Central Mix addition

Solution

Addition of CON-E-CO 12-Yard Tilt Mixer Allows
Operator to Utilize Existing Transit Plant for Short-Term Project

    • Designing a CON-E-CO Model 12 Tilt Mixer with self-contained legs
to grade and a new 36” batch transfer conveyor
    • Existing Dry Batch Plant can be converted to a
Central Mix Plant in five days
    • Impact on production during plant conversion kept to a minimum

Result

    • The addition of the specially-designed CON-E-CO Model 12 Tilt Mixer
    • The custom-engineered Tilt Mixer greatly reduced installation cost
    • By locating the new Tilt Mixer perpendicular to the existing
Transit Mix Plant, existing Truck Mixer approaches were left
in place, minimizing the impact on site layout
    • Plant production increased by 60% with conversion to Central Mix Plant
    • Quality of the concrete mix was standardized with one plant operator
      confirming the final concrete-mix slump
    • Charging time of Mixer Trucks is reduced by 70% resulting
in direct fuel savings and an increase in fleet productivity

    Customer Feedback:

"The temporary addition of a CON-E-CO Tilt Mixer for this two-year project finally enables us to afford the long-term addition of a Central Mix Plant to our primary operation site on the other side of the island - Maui."
